Biologiste avant tout, je me suis ensuite formé à une multitude de techniques qui gravitent autour du thème central de l'Histoire Naturelle. Cela a commencé avec la petite taxidermie, en mélangeant les techniques modernes aux techniques anciennes. Ensuite, les techniques de moulage, modelage, sculpture et peinture qui permettent soit la reproduction de n'importe quel item qui s'y prête, soit la création pure, toujours dans une optique d'hyperréalisme.

Biologist above all, I then learnt a variety of techniques around the theme of Natural History. It began with small taxidermy, combining traditional and modern techniques. Then, casting, modeling, sculpture and painting allow either the copy of any item or pure creation, always with the aim of hyper-realism.

Les techniques empruntées à la restauration d'art sont nécessaires pour conserver et restaurer des pièces dégradées, quelles qu'en soient les raisons et l'état de conservation. Pour les objets à haute valeur patrimoniale, les procédés utilisés doivent répondre à certaines exigences quant à l'invasivité et la réversibilité. Il convient aussi de ne pas dénaturer le travail d'origine, la patte de l'artisan/artiste ou encore la patine d'usage, quitte à limiter l'ampleur de l'intervention. La restauration n'est pas forcément synonyme de remise à neuf, et se limite souvent à la restitution de la lisibilité de l'objet. C'est l'essentiel de mon activité.

Restorer' skills are necessary to conserve and restore degraded items, whatever the reasons and state of conservation. For objects with high heritage value, processes have to deal with invasiveness and reversibility requirements. It is also advisable not to skew the original work, the hand of the craftsman/artist or the patina, even if it means limiting the extent of the intervention. Restoration is not necessarily synonymous with making new again, and is often limited to the recovery of the legibility (or readability) of the object. This is my core business.

La mise en valeur est une étape importante qui nécessite encore d'autres savoir-faire. Finesse et équilibre sont les maîtres-mots.

Displaying is an important step that requires other know-how. Finesse and equilibrium are the keywords.

Enfin, les aspects techniques sont accompagnés de savoirs liés à l'histoire des cabinets et musées d'histoire naturelle, et d'une expérience pratique en gestion de collection : identification de spécimens, inventorisation, état de conservation, valeur patrimoniale, recherche en conservation, veille scientifique.

Finally, the technical aspects are supplemented by knowledge of the history of natural history cabinets and museums, and practical experience in collection management: specimen identification, inventory, state of preservation, heritage value, research in conservation, scientific watch.
